The name Effetto 71 honors that signature bounce and ping-pong’s ability to foster peace and unity. In 1971, the Chinese government invited the U.S. table tennis team to visit China for a series of friendly matches, even though the two countries had severed diplomatic ties decades earlier.
The young Chinese and U.S. players transcended borders and cultural differences around ping-pong tables. These matches represented the beginning of a renewed relationship.
