Temple finial (Faïteau) said to be, according to interpretation, “Garuda” (Sanskrit: Eagle), mount of the god Vishnu or “Hong/Hamsa” (Thai: Hong /Sanskrit: Hamsa) featuring the mythical bird or swan, animal vehicle of the god Brahma. Beautiful original patina scattered with concretions and lichens, vestiges of red and yellow bowl and traces of gilding (Brahma’s colors). Thailand or Laos, 18th/19th century. Supplied with white or black steel base, adjustable chofa inclination. Provenance: Estate of collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau.
