A superb late 20th Century English solid silver novelty bookmark. This bookmark depicts a gentleman called Samuel Pickwick. Samuel Pickwick is a fictional character and the main protagonist in The Pickwick Papers (1836), the first novel by author Charles Dickens. Pickwick is a retired successful businessman and is the Founder and Chairman of the Pickwick Club. The bookmark is of a flat, cut-out form and engraved decoration depicting Mr Pickwick. Engraved to the reverse – ‘Samuel Pickwick Esq. G.C.M.P.C.’. It is easy to imagine the appeal behind these bookmarks as a superb gift or personal posession. As relevant today as it was then, it makes a fantastic conversation piece and wonderful everyday accessory.
