Temple finial ornament known, depending on interpretation, as “Garuda” (Sanskrit: Eagle), mount of the god Vishnu, or “Hong/Hamsa” (Thai: Hong /Sanskrit: Hamsa) featuring the mythical bird or swan/goose, animal vehicle (vâhana) of the god Brahma. Beautiful original patina, combining gilding and red and yellow bowls (Brahma’s colors). A very fine specimen, very whole, still with its verroterie forming the eyes, patina covered with calcifications and lichens. Northern Thailand or Laos, 18th century. Supplied with white or black steel base, adjustable chofa inclination. Provenance: Estate of collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. Sold with certificate of provenance.
